JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
The College of Arts and Sciences of the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez (UPRM), the largest in our Campus and in the entire UPR system. One of four Colleges in Mayagüez Campus with 367 professors, 176 non-teaching employees and 4,379 enrolled students, of which 4,045 are undergraduate students and 334 are graduate students. The College of Arts and Sciences combines what other liberal arts universities and colleges would include in the Humanities, Social Sciences and Natural Sciences faculties providing courses to all programs at UPRM. Our College has 14 academic departments and an interdisciplinary program (Industrial Biotechnology) providing BS and BA undergraduate degrees. Graduate studies are supported as MS, MA and PhD degrees through three doctoral and thirteen master’s programs.
The College of Arts and Sciences of the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez (UPRM) seeks candidates for several tenure-track positions in different disciplines at the Assistant Professor level. A successful candidate must have a PhD, postdoctoral experience is preferred, demonstrated teaching skills for development of undergraduate and graduate courses in his/her area of specialty. Knowledge of English and Spanish or a willingness to learn is desirable.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Doctor in Philosophy degree or equivalent from an accredited institution and completion of all requirements by date of hire. Must demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and research in listed areas. Proven experience in research in the required discipline. Selected candidates are expected to show excellent performance in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. Aiming at developing a sustained mentoring program of graduate students. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment
DUTIES
The successful candidate will be expected to develop an active, externally funded research program with undergraduate and graduate students, and collaborate with faculty. Other responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, coordinate undergraduate teaching laboratories, publish research work in peer-reviewed journals, mentor students, participate in faculty committees, professional service, institutional assessment and improvement activities. UPRM is a Land-Grant, Sea-Grant, and Space-Grant institution; interaction with faculty and researchers in these fields is encouraged. Puerto Rico represents a suitable setting to develop research in tropical systems, and the University of Puerto Rico stimulates collaborations with active faculty and students in a wide range of research areas.
