JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

The College of Arts and Sciences of the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez (UPRM), the largest in our Campus and in the entire UPR system. One of four Colleges in Mayagüez Campus with 367 professors, 176 non-teaching employees and 4,379 enrolled students, of which 4,045 are undergraduate students and 334 are graduate students. The College of Arts and Sciences combines what other liberal arts universities and colleges would include in the Humanities, Social Sciences and Natural Sciences faculties providing courses to all programs at UPRM. Our College has 14 academic departments and an interdisciplinary program (Industrial Biotechnology) providing BS and BA undergraduate degrees. Graduate studies are supported as MS, MA and PhD degrees through three doctoral and thirteen master’s programs.

 

The College of Arts and Sciences of the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez (UPRM) seeks candidates for several tenure-track positions in different disciplines at the Assistant Professor level. A successful candidate must have a PhD, postdoctoral experience is preferred, demonstrated teaching skills for development of undergraduate and graduate courses in his/her area of specialty. Knowledge of English and Spanish or a willingness to learn is desirable.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

Doctor in Philosophy degree or equivalent from an accredited institution and completion of all requirements by date of hire. Must demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and research in listed areas. Proven experience in research in the required discipline. Selected candidates are expected to show excellent performance in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. Aiming at developing a sustained mentoring program of graduate students. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment

 

DUTIES

 

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an active, externally funded research program with undergraduate and graduate students, and collaborate with faculty. Other responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, coordinate undergraduate teaching laboratories, publish research work in peer-reviewed journals, mentor students, participate in faculty committees, professional service, institutional assessment and improvement activities. UPRM is a Land-Grant, Sea-Grant, and Space-Grant institution; interaction with faculty and researchers in these fields is encouraged. Puerto Rico represents a suitable setting to develop research in tropical systems, and the University of Puerto Rico stimulates collaborations with active faculty and students in a wide range of research areas.

Tenure-track position for Assistant Professor in ESL Teaching and Practice

Candidate must teach undergraduate ESL courses to our general student population that focuses on developing skills for academic and career language literacy needs. Assistant Professor of Literature

 

The Department of Hispanic Studies at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez (UPRM) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Literature at the level of Assistant Professor beginning July 2021. PhD in Hispanic Studies or Spanish required. Specialization in Spanish, Hispanic-American, and/or Puerto Rican literature preferred, and ability to teach introductory courses in Spanish literature a plus. The candidate selected must demonstrate a strong research agenda and will be required to teach introductory and basic courses in Spanish, as well as more advanced courses at the M.A. and undergraduate levels. Teaching load 4/4 per semester.

Special requirements: The candidate must hold a PhD in Literature at the time of appointment and have demonstrated teaching experience. A passion for teaching, a commitment to innovative teaching methods, and demonstrated success in working with undergraduates is necessary. Departmental service is expected and includes assessment, new academic program development, among other duties.

Assistant Professor – Exercise Physiology

The Department of Kinesiology of the University of Puerto Rico – Mayaguez Campus is officially announcing an assistant professor faculty position. Assistant Professor – Chemical Oceanography

 Ph.D. is required.  We are open to a broad range of specialties but are particularly interested in candidates with backgrounds in Carbonate Geochemistry, Biogeochemistry, Chemical Ecology, Natural Products Chemistry, or Marine Pollution.  Since English and Spanish are the official languages, knowledge of both languages is desirable.

Special requirements: Teaching requirements include an introductory graduate level course in Chemical Oceanography and additional graduate level courses in the candidate’s area of specialty. Assistant Professor in School Psychology

A full-time faculty member responsible for teaching in the subject areas of School Psychology. Expected to be able to plan, organize, and teach in a way that ensures the achievement of the institution’s learning objectives. Contribute to the academic process of the institution through participation in the development of new courses, evaluation, research, mentoring, teaching of undergraduate and graduate students, and community service. Special requirements: Doctorate in Philosophy (Ph.D.) with a concentration in School Psychology. Teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level. Valid psychologist license issued by the Puerto Rico Board of Examination of Psychologists or license from another jurisdiction with the commitment to carry out the necessary procedures to validate it in Puerto Rico during the first year of hire. Research experience. Evidence of publications and presentations in professional forums. Work experience with school communities. Knowledge or ability to use technologies in distance learning.
