Silviculture, an art and a science
“Silviculture is both the science and the art of producing and maintaining a community of trees by applying scientific knowledge that promotes forest stand establishment, species composition diversity, and in general, the growth, health and quality of the forest. It integrates biological and economic concepts to devise and carry out treatments most appropriate in satisfying the objectives of an owner, a community or the society as a whole (Nyland, R. 2002. Silvilculture – Concepts and Applications & Society of American Foresters, 1998).
