This is the first honor roll of the new Department of Computer Science and Engineering of the Mayagüez University Campus (RUM). Thirteen students are part of the historic moment of the Department instituted in 2016.
“I come, as Dean of Engineering, to express my sincere congratulations for their academic achievements, which make them worthy of belonging to the Honor Roll of this new Department. I also come on behalf of our interim Chancellor, Wilma Santiago. In part, we are here because of our chancellor’s commitment that all departments recognize their honor roll students, since we believe it is important that a job well done be recognized. This activity is historic, as it is a new Department that has had a spectacular growth, we have maintained strict admission standards and even so, the students are coming”, said Dr. Agustín Rullan.
Of the thirteen (13) honorees: eleven (11) are from the Software Engineering program; and two (2) of Computer Science and Engineering.
“After so many years of work, we began to see the fruits, and to see students in our honor roll, others who have been recruited for internships or jobs. That fills us with great satisfaction, and we are already noticing the cultural change in the students who reflect passion in what they do, we have a rigorous program that requires a lot of time and dedication so I congratulate you for this achievement”, said Dr. Vélez, director of the aforementioned Department.
Similarly, he said, Dr. Jaime Seguel, who serves as associate director of Computer Engineering Sciences.
“We are all born with a talent and we have the responsibility to cultivate it and that requires perseverance, it is not enough to be talented, you have to have the vision and the commitment, if you are here you have the combination of both: talent and perseverance. Your success is also the success of our Department and the institution, I congratulate you!”
The honor roll is composed of nine males and four females.
Dr. Nelson Pagán, of the Counseling and Psychological Services Department, offered a motivational talk.
