Abstract: In this presentation, we will discuss examples that highlight the importance of thermophysical properties in industrial applications. The current industrial challenges in the chemical and oil and gas industries demand high accuracy thermophysical property data to drive innovation, increase efficiency, and reduce costs in the current challenging energy economy. To this end, the presentation discusses experimental and theoretical research performed to develop a fundamental understanding of the key thermophysical properties — more specifically, obtaining high-accuracy PVT data for natural gas applications and characterization of polymeric systems at high pressure for the building and construction industry. Additionally, complex scenarios such as foaming in insulating materials and electrolyte systems for gas treating applications that require the combination of experimental and theoretical techniques are studied.
