Association of Women in Mechanical Engineering (AFIM)
AFIM is a student group focused on the support and growth of female students in Mechanical Engineering at UPRM. Activities include discussions with women in industry and academia, social gatherings to connect women within Mechanical Engineering, and outreach to prospective students.
College Robotics for Mechanical Engineering (CROME)
This is the first robotics association in the university. It focuses on practicing the “hands on” part enginnering. To aquire that at the moment it has three projects:
Project: Battle Bots
A group of students each semester design and manufacture completly a robot for combat in a national competition called Bots IQ.
Project: Tarzan Bot
A group of students involved in the design and development of a quadruped robot resembling the Universities mascot, Tarzan.
Mini Project: Sea Perch
A small group of students design and manufacture a small robotic submarine for an obstacle and race competition in the universities’ pool complex.
Student Chapters of Professional Societies
American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA)
The student section of the AIAA is the link for prospective aerospace professionals. The student chapter meets regularly for activities such as tours and technical seminars, and networking opportunities.
American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
The student section of the ASME is the link for prospective mechanical engineers with their chosen profession. The section holds weekly meetings which feature presentations by practicing engineers.
American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE)
The student section of the ASHRAE is inactive.
Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES)
The student section of the BMES is a link to s the world’s leading society of professionals devoted to developing and using engineering and technology to advance human health and well-being.
CIA Institute of Mechanical Engineers
The student section of the institute is inactive.
SAE International
This group strives to further research, development, design, manufacture, and utilization of vehicles which operate on land and sea, and in air and space.
Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME)
