Automation / Mechatronics

Mechatronics is  described as an integrative discipline in the areas of mechanics, electronics and computer Engineering which aims to provide better products, processes and systems. Mechatronics is not, therefore, a new branch of engineering, but a research concept that emphasizes the need for integration and intensive interaction between different areas of engineering.

Using the definition proposed by JA Rietdijk: “Mechatronics is the synergistic combination of precision mechanical engineering, electronics, automatic control and systems for the design of products and processes” , which seeks to create more complex machinery to facilitate human activities through electronic processes mainly in the mechanical industry. The previous definition emphasizes that mechatronics is directed to applications and design. Moreover, beyond the technical issues, mechatronics has also been adopted has a applied research area, in which modeling, analysis and synthesis of control systems have tried to homogenize and understand the science behind the problems.
