Position Overview
We have a full-time opening for an experimental rheologist/flow engineer to help develop and commercialize a new battery product based on flowable electrode technology. Engineer will work closely with our technical staff and management team to measure the rheological properties of concentrated suspensions, develop new formulations, and participate in modeling efforts. This is an excellent upstream opportunity for a PhD level engineer with demonstrated competencies in applied rheology. We are seeking a team player who would enjoy working in a fast-paced start-up environment. Compensation: very competitive, including stock options.

Primary Responsibilities
* Develop reproducible and repeatable methods for measuring rheological properties of suspensions
* Define equipment and methods for managing complex flow through electrochemical devices
* Support cell design and development
* Develop rheological models appropriate for numerical simulation input
* Participate in numerical simulations
* Develop mixing and fluid handling protocols
* Develop techniques to characterize the degree of mixedness
* Develop new fomulations with appropriate rheological and other physical properties

Desired Skills & Experience

Required
* PhD in Chemical Engineering or equivalent
* Solid grounding in non-Newtonian fluid dynamics and physics of suspensions
* At least 2 years post-degree industrial/applied rheology experience
* Experience with injection molding or related technologies
* Must have experimental rheological and mixing competency
* Strong competency in English language

Desired
* Mathematical modeling and numerical simulation
* Familiarity with colloid science and engineering
* Injection mold design and analysis
* Scale-up of mixing and fluid handling processes

24M is a new startup in Cambridge building next generation energy storage systems for large scale applications in the grid and transportation areas. The company is a spinout from A123 Systems and the co-founder, Yet-Ming Chiang, was also a founder of A123 and American Superconductor. 24M recently closed $10M in VC financing and received a Department of Energy ARPA-e award of $7M overall to develop the technology in collaboration with MIT and Rutgers.
