Undergraduate students Javier E. Rosado and Nilka M. Rodriguez won third place and undergraduate student Diego J. Rosso won first place in the materials division of the annual Student Poster Competition celebrated in the 2010 AIChE Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah. Javier and Nilka’s work focused on the synthesis and characterization of gold-poly(styrene) Janus particles as nanoscale heaters. This work was carried out under the supervision of Prof. Ubaldo Cordova-Figueroa. Diego’s work considered the response of ferrofluids to oscillating shear flows from a simulation perspective. This work was carried out with INQU PhD student Denisse Soto-Aquino and under the supervision of Prof. Carlos Rinaldi.
