Description

As our Materials Researcher II – Polymers Research and Development at Nike IHM, you’ll be the expert at employing structure property relationships such as linear and non-linear visco-elasticity of thermoplastic urethanes to sheet, fiber, blow mold and twin sheet thermoforming processes. You’ll take vague and ill-defined concepts and distill them into concise testable criteria to support IHM and Nike Category needs ranging from polymer development through product creation and failure analysis. You’ll need disciplined work skills that include project planning, tracking and reporting. You’ll also need to be a personable team worker who has the ability to explain complex data and relationships in simple understandable concepts. As a researcher, a deep curiosity to understand root cause and the ability to seek out and execute solutions to understand and apply root cause understanding to achieve practical solutions are essential. In addition, an ability and willingness to work with and support IHM Engineering and Quality at other IHM locations domestically and internationally are required.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position include:
* Master’s Degree or higher degree in polymer science, chemistry, chemical engineering or related field
* Minimum of 7 years’ polymer science experience in research, development and processing
* Expertise in polymer rheology in shear and extension both Newtonian and non-Newtonian regimes
* Expertise in polymer blend morphology characterization via rheology
* Expertise in multilayer multiple polymer extrusion rheology and morphology
* Expertise in modeling polymer systems through rheology models
* Polymer characterization via AFM, Raman, FT-IR and NMR
* Ph.D. Chemistry or Chemical Engineering in Polymer Science is highly preferred
