Opening for an Experimental Rheology Specialist at Chevron

Overview:

Chevron is currently seeking for an expert in experimental rheology with a Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering or related disciplines. This position will lead efforts in operating experimental facilities to study wax and asphaltene deposition, and conducting rheological measurements of oilfield formation and produced fluids in relation to flow assurance issues in oilfield production operations. This position will also have responsibilities for evaluating chemical performance to prevent and mitigate flow assurance issues for Chevron operations worldwide. This is a safety sensitive position. This position will report to head of the Production Chemistry Team, and is based in Houston, TX.

Position Details: Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

* Manages safety aspects related to the Flow Assurance & Rheology in strict compliance with Chevron’s policies and procedures regarding Health, Environment and Safety.

* Coordinates and leads experimental investigations in the area of solid deposition and rheological properties of crude oils, emulsions and dispersions. Studies will complement R&D, technical service activities within the Flow Assurance Team related to wax precipitation and deposition phenomena, oil, emulsion and suspension rheological property measurements, asphaltene onset and deposition phenomena, interfacial property measurements, and impact of production chemicals on these phenomena.

* Initiates new R&D or technical service projects and develops project proposals for funding

* Manages projects, including planning, deliverables tracking and monitoring of budget and expenditure

* Provides technical direction and performance monitoring of lab technicians

* Serves as a technical contributor and possibly jointly leads integrated flow assurance research and technology development programs

* Provides consultation to operating assets and major capital project teams on flow assurance issues and chemical solutions

* Prepares technical reports, and presents/publishes technical findings

* Compiles new publications, patents in this area and share lessons learned, best practices in this area with the team and throughout Chevron.

* Designs, develops and implements new lab techniques and capabilities to solve flow assurance and production chemistry optimization issues to enable more efficient operation of the oil field

* Travels up to 25% of the time

Required Qualifications:

* Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering or related disciplines

* Post-doctoral research experience and industrial experience would be highly advantageous

* Strong background and experience in Rheology and Flow Assurance, especially in measuring rheological properties of crude oil, understanding flow assurance issues (prediction, prevention and mitigation) with a strong emphasis in experimental investigation of problems

* Strong background and experience in analytical and experimental techniques to investigate complex fluid properties and provide input to modeling efforts

* Background in subsea production system design & operation, multiphase flow simulation (steady state & transient), complex fluid flows , PVT phase behavior and fluid properties, and production chemistry and chemical applications would be preferred

* In addition to strong technical qualifications and requirements, the ideal candidate should be self-motivated, proactive (taking initiatives), an effective project manager, and a good team-worker:
