Research Opportunities for Undergraduate Students

We have two research opportunities for undergraduate students from UPR, Mayaguez in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering at Purdue University

Purdue Summer SURF Program

This first program is primarily for students who are new to research. SURF offers students an excellent opportunity to hone research skills and to experience life as a graduate student. SURF matches undergraduates with a faculty member and graduate student mentor who introduce them to the research tools used on the cutting edges of biomedical engineering, and medical device technology. To get more information see the website here:

Student interested in working with professors in Biomedical Engineering should apply to SURF and indicate which BME faculty labs listed on the SURF site are their choices.

Additional faculty labs can be found at the following webpage and if students are interested in any of these faculty they should contact them directly by email.

Purdue Grubbs Summer Research Fellowship –

This second program is primarily for students who are experienced researchers and want to grow in their skills or find an advance project or specialty research focus.

The Grubbs Fellowship provides summer funding support and matches undergraduate researchers with a BME faculty member who will advise and encourage rapid growth in biomedical engineering research and technology development.
