Dear All:

In case you missed this on the VU-EDGE website, I am sending you this reminder as the deadlines for this and other Vanderbilt summer research opportunities mentioned below are approaching soon.

The Short-Term Training Program for Minority Students (STTP) is sponsored by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in conjunction with Meharry Medical College offers undergraduate students an 8 to 11 week training program in vascular biology. The Short Term Training Program for Minority Students focuses the considerable strengths and diversity of multi-departmental research at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and Meharry Medical College, providing a meaningful research experience for minority undergraduates interested in pursuing research training and careers in vascular biology. The laboratory experience provides detailed coverage of those fundamental basics which are the underpinning of a successful performance in any research laboratory. Formal teaching sessions designed to cover material which is highly integrative and coupled to recent research findings and areas of activity are also an integral component of the STTP summer research experience. This year, the program is schedule for June 1, 2011 – August 5, 2011. The STTP application deadline isFebruary 1, 2011.

Participants are paid a salary of $400 per week for the ten-week period.  The program also covers the costs of on-campus housing and travel to and from Nashville.

Previous research experience is a plus but not necessary to qualify for participation in this program.  STTP candidates should be highly-motivated to pursue biomedical research and interested in pursuing a Ph.D. degree in a biological/biomedical science. Sophomores and juniors are especially encouraged to apply.

Please advise interested students to complete the on-line application at:
