The Oral History Lab at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez (OHL) participated in a screening and discussion of We Are Still Here at the San Francisco Public Library as part of the program “Film, Community, and Resistance in Puerto Rico.” The film was presented by Eduardo Lugo Hernández and Carhianie Vargas Padin (pictured below), who shared the project’s community-based focus and the collaborative work behind its creation.
Stemming from an oral history interview with Eduardo Lugo Hernández, UPRM Professor of Psychology, the film highlights partnerships among community members, university students, and faculty to support youth in Barrio Rucio with their education and socioemotional development during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
We Are Still Here is a film by Raisa Bonnet Ocasio and students enrolled in Cine courses at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez, produced by the Oral History Lab at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez in collaboration with Impacto Juventud and Aula en la Montaña with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
El Oral History Lab de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Mayagüez (OHL), participó en la proyección y conversatorio del documental We Are Still Here en la Biblioteca Pública de San Francisco como parte del programa “Film, Community, and Resistance in Puerto Rico.” La presentación estuvo a cargo de Eduardo Lugo Hernández y Carhianie Vargas Padin (en la foto de abajo), quienes compartieron el enfoque comunitario del proyecto y el trabajo colaborativo que hizo posible su realización.
A partir de una entrevista de historia oral con Eduardo Lugo Hernández, profesor de Psicología en UPRM, el documental destaca las alianzas entre miembros de la comunidad, estudiantes universitarios y docentes para apoyar a jóvenes del Barrio Rucio en su educación y desarrollo socioemocional durante y después de la pandemia global del COVID-19.
