Dear Students:
Welcome to the travel award application process for the 2016 Emerging Researchers National (ERN) Conference in STEM. The ERN Conference is cosponsored by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Education and Human Resources Programs (EHR) and the NSF Division of Human Resource Development (HRD), within the Directorate for Education and Human Resources (EHR). The conference will be held at the Renaissance Washington DC hotel in Washington, D.C., on February 25-27, 2016.
A limited number of travel awards are available for students who are selected for poster or oral presentations at the ERN Conference.
The 2016 ERN Travel Award covers the conference registration fee, housing, airfare, and ground transportation. The conference will begin at 6:00 pm on Thursday, February 25, 2016, and will end at midnight on Saturday, February 27, 2016.
Your hotel guest room cost at the conference hotel will be covered for the following nights:
Thursday, February 25th, Friday, February 26th, and Saturday, February 27th, 2016.
***For students traveling from Hawaii, hotel costs will also be covered for Wednesday night, February 24, 2016.***
Eligibility for ERN Travel Award
ERN Travel Award applicants must be:
(A) Undergraduate or graduate students who participate in research or education projects funded by one of the following NSF Programs*:
***Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP);
***Centers of Research Excellence in Science and Technology (CREST);
***Emerging Frontiers in Research and Innovation (EFRI) Scholars;
***EntryPoint;
***Historically Black Colleges and Universities Undergraduate Program (HBCU-UP);
***Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP);
***LSAMP-Bridges to the Doctorate;
***National Society of Black Physicists (NSBP)Scholars*;
***Research in Disabilities Education (RDE);
***Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REUs); and
***Tribal Colleges and Universities Program (TCUP).
(B) Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident
(C) Must be accepted to present a poster or oral presentation at the 2016 ERN Conference.
*The National Society of Black Physicists (NSBP) is also working with AAAS to increase the number of African American and other underrepresented minority physics students who participate in the ERN conference.
All applications will be reviewed and evaluated by the following criteria:
(1) academic achievement and
(2) STEM career interest.
For award finalists, we will contact faculty mentors to verify student GPAs and for an explanation of why travel support cannot be paid from their NSF grant or other sources.
