Professor David Suleiman was recognized by the Minority Affairs Committee (MAC) of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) with the 2020 Eminent Chemical Engineers Award.
The awards recognize professionals who identify as members of an underrepresented group and have served as mentors and role models of underrepresented minorities in engineering and other technical accomplishments and distinguished service to the profession.
Doctor David Suleiman has been a faculty member of the Department of Chemical Engineering at UPRM since 1995. He has a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1990) and a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Georgia Tech (1994). Suleiman has divided his time between teaching, research, academic administration, and service. He has been recognized numerous times as an Outstanding Professor by the student body. He is currently the mentor of the student chapters of AIChE and IIQPR. He also supervises an active research group focusing on Energy Efficient Applications and Specialty Separations using Polymer Nanocomposite Membranes and sponsored by external agencies such as DOD, NSF, and NASA.
