INTRODUCTION

The Department of Social Sciences at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus, is currently seeking candidates for teaching in the areas of history of Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, and the United States, particularly with an interdisciplinary focus.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must have completed a doctoral degree, in Philosophy and Letters, with a specialization in the History of Europe, United States and Latin America, from an accredited university. Applicants must be committed to undergraduate teaching in  the context of the discipline of history. Considerable teaching experience and practice is expected, which will be evidenced by their studies and intellectual production and excellence in evaluations from peers and students.

Their publications or projects must demonstrate experience in multidisciplinary historical research. Candidates must have experience in research and peer-reviewed professional publications, with recognition d in their area of expertise. They must have experience in using technology for the development of face-to-face, hybrid, and distance learning courses. Applicant must have experience in advising, directing, or tutoring theses or dissertations, as well as in mentoring students. The candidate must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills in both Spanish and English.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Faculty responsibilities include teaching history courses at the undergraduate level, conducting research projects and creative work, publishing in professional and academic journals, disseminating their work through conferences and other forums, offering mentorship to undergraduate students, and participating in departmental and institutional committees. Candidate must have experience in assessing student learning in the courses they teach and the ability to coordinate and teach courses and undergraduate history research seminars. The successful candidate will collaborate on departmental, faculty, and campus projects, while fulfilling all the teaching staff responsibilities included in general regulations of the University of Puerto Rico.
