Their talk today will focus on grant mechanics and grant writing basics, with a focus on writing from the perspective of a graduate student.

Kara Fore, MS, and Hector Segarra, JD, are Proposal Development Specialists in the Proposal Development Unit of the UPRM Research & Development Center. In this role they have assisted many faculty members at UPRM in finding appropriate research funding opportunities, and in planning, preparing and editing proposals to external funding agencies. For the proposals that they have worked directly with, they have doubled the institutional funding rate. They also give talks and workshops on Grantsmanship, as well as planning an annual Grant Writing Initiative for UPRM Faculty, and an annual related symposium. Last year they hosted the Deputy Director of the NIH Office of Extramural Research, which attracted 120 attendees from across the island.
