OPEN POSITION – Postdoctoral researcher in complex fluids and soft materials, UC Santa Barbara
Department of Chemical Engineering
A postdoctoral research position is available in the laboratory of Prof. Matthew Helgeson at UC Santa Barbara. We are a highly interdisciplinary lab focused on soft matter design and processing, with specific expertise in microstructural characterization, rheology and microfluidics of complex fluids. Successful candidates will perform both fundamental and applied research focused on the formation of responsive gels and microparticles using colloids in self-assembling media. An initial appointment with competitive salary and benefits will be made for one year, and will be renewable depending on performance and availability of funding.
Qualified applicants should hold a doctoral degree or be within three months of receiving a Ph.D. in chemical engineering, materials science and engineering, physical chemistry, physics, or related discipline. Although not required, candidates with expertise in any of the following areas will be given special consideration: polymer/colloid self-assembly and gelation, rheology and microrheology, microfluidics, scattering, and cryo-EM.
Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, CV, and references to Prof. Matthew Helgeson (email@example.com). More information about the research group can be found on our website, http://engineering.ucsb.edu/~helgeson/. The position is available starting summer 2012 and will be open until filled.
