The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program, supported by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and the participating colleges/universities are accepting applications from students majoring in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). This year, the program will require the institution to submit one proposal on behalf of the students interested in applying, that compiles the individual student applications. http://www.nist.gov/surf/ This institutional application has a short time frame, and for that reason all student and departmental requirements must be sent by Monday, February 9th by 12:00 noon.
Applications are open to undergraduate students regardless of their year of study; freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors are welcome. A stipend of $5,500 will be granted to the students chosen, as well as support for housing and travel, during the eleven (11) week program.
Though the UPRM is focusing on applicants interested in the SURF Gaithersburg Program (http://www.nist.gov/surfgaithersburg/) in Maryland (no limit on number of student applications), applications for the SURF Boulder Program (http://www.nist.gov/surfboulder/) in Colorado will be considered if there is sufficient student interest (maximum of eight (8) applicants).
