Program Concept
Open Capstone is an initiative in the College of Engineering (CoE) to foster the development of industry and community projects through engineering capstone and design courses. Open Capstone also creates awareness about engineering design projects through a yearly exhibition and forum where samples of student projects are showcased to the open community. The forum creates a synergistic environment among design professors, students, industry, and the community.
Open Capstone Benefits
| CUSTOM SOLUTIONS Design projects are developed in coordination with sponsors to ensure solution fitness. A professor supervises the work developed by students, providing guidance and advice. |
FLEXIBLE IP Solutions provided through Open Capstone are transferred to the sponsor to keep. Marketable solutions are negotiated with a flexible model to foster business development. |
MINIMUM INVESTMENT Open Capstone is supported through sponsor donations used for offsetting student expenses and program costs. Sponsors with special needs can be accommodated at no-cost. |
Constituent Participation Model
Potential sponsors interested in having projects performed in Capstone and Design Courses need to:
- Establish a Capstone Agreement*: A single master agreement for multiproject/multiyear collaboration
- Fill a project proposal form: A short form describing the project
Project proposals received through this model are evaluated for fitness to course scope and goals. Upon approval, projects are performed by students under the supervision of faculty member. See our promotional brochure for more information.
