About the Order of the Engineer

The Order of the Engineer is a professional association established in the United States in 1970 to promote ethical practice, professional integrity, and pride in the engineering profession. The Order emphasizes the engineer’s responsibility to protect the public, uphold high standards of technical competence, and practice engineering with honesty and accountability.

Membership is voluntary and open to graduates of ABET-accredited engineering programs, senior students within two academic terms of graduation, licensed professional engineers, and distinguished engineers recognized for their contributions to the profession. Induction takes place through a formal Ring Ceremony, during which candidates accept the Obligation of an Engineer and receive the stainless steel Engineer’s Ring, a symbol of their commitment to ethical engineering practice and service to society.

Participation and Cost

Participation in the ceremony requires a one-time fee of $20, which covers the official Engineer’s Ring and induction materials. To confirm your space in the ceremony please submit the $20 payment using this form. Once the payment is received, the reservation will be confirmed and additional details about the ceremony will be shared with participants.
