Abstract:
The purpose of this project was to develop a capacity planning tool for a local medical device company having issues handling the product mix of one of its production lines. The tool provided the company the ability to generate accurate time estimates and therefore, manage their product mix more efficiently. The tool takes into consideration both the current order that is being manufactured and the next order to be manufactured, accounting for the differences between the products in both orders and then provides an accurate estimate of the time required to complete the incoming order, depending on the number of units required. Knowing the information provided by the tool enables the company to make better decisions regarding the planning and scheduling the line.
