2017 Principal Investigators Meeting: Workforce Diversity and Career Opportunities within the USDA

The Annual USDA, National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) National Principal Investigators meeting was held in Albuquerque, New Mexico during February 16-18th, 2017. The meeting hosted separate professional and student tracks where keynote speakers shared their experiences and had a whole day focused on Workforce Diversity and Career Opportunities for Current and Recent Graduates. Participating students had a  variety of activities focusing on professional development and those involved in research, presented their investigations during a poster session. USDA-NIFA funded projects also participated during the poster session, presenting the project’s objectives and achievements. 2018 Project Director's Meeting

FY2017 Hispanic-Serving Institutions Education Grants Program Project Directors Meeting of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture was held during March 19 -21, 2018 in Washington, D.C. Participants had the opportunity to visit the NIFA headquarters in Washington, DC, the National Science Foundation in Alexandria, VA and the Agricultural Research Service in Beltsville, MD.  PD’s had the opportunity to present their project’s accomplishments and students had a poster session during the meeting’s first day. Ms. Sheila Montes, ECaFSS former student from the Inter American University of Puerto Rico presented a poster of her work at the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center (BARC) and also shared her experience as a summer intern and then as an employee at the BARC. ECaFSS project director Dr. Lydia Rivera and project coordinator Marian Espola had the opportunity to share the experiences with other grantees from Puerto Rico and the United States.

Hispanic-Serving Institutions Education Grants Program FY 2018 HSI’s Project Directors’ Meeting

The activity was held during February 27 to March 2nd, 2019 in Costa Mesa, California, in collaboration with the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education 14th Annual Meeting. Dr. Yadira Malavez from UPR Aguadilla represented the ECaFSS Project and presented the project’s outcomes during the HSI’s Meeting. Two of Dr. Malavez’s undergraduate students presented posters of their investigations.
