At the end of February, Judy Casey represented PR at the SWCA –the Southeastern Writing Centers Association (a cohort of NCTE) — of which we are a member– in Greensboro, North Carolina, the first time that PR has been come to this conference. J. Casey presented her work on TuLA, Language Awareness for Tutors. Research in Language Awareness, previously completed by J. Casey and E. Dayton, was explained with a focus on grammar. Issues facing writing centers today are focused on language: when home varieties of English conflict with edited, academic English, what role does the writing center play? In PR, we have Spanish, PR English, and “standard” English. Code meshing was a primary topic addressed by the conference. Casey also served on a panel entitled “What Do We Do Next?”
