The English Department is host to an exciting interdisciplinary cinema experience. Our unique program features an 18-credit curricular sequence that allows you to effectively combine the in-depth analysis of Film History and Theory with filmmaking skills to create your own fiction or documentary short films.
Remember, film is much more than directors and actors. It is a huge industry that involves engineering, art, business administration, marketing, and lots more.
What does it mean for you? Well of course you could join the rapid growing PR film Industry but if that is not your goal, film courses serve to cover your socio-humanistic electives. We can teach you how to solve problems creatively, how to properly express your ideas, and then illustrate them visually.
Our academic offer features courses on film history, film production in both fictional and documentary variety, screenwriting, cinematography, acting, illumination, editing, and sound design as well as a wide variety of electives in topics like national cinemas (Italian, Spanish, Indian, etc.), adaptation, Race & Film, horror, and the very first film course on the history of Puerto Rican Cinema.
In order to start your film adventure, you need two things: 24 approved credits (Two semesters) before enrolling in our basic courses and 48 credits for the next level of courses. You should also have a GPA of 2.5 or more.
