The following is a list of graduate programs with specific requirements in addition to the general requirements of the Graduate Studies Office application therefore does not reflect all the graduate programs offered by the RUM. If you wish to apply to the MBA program in Business Administration, Finance, Industrial Management or Human Resources, in addition to meeting the general requirements , you should

  • GMAT scores or provide EXADEP examination (before PAEG);
  • provide TOEFL score if your native language is not English. The minimum score required of the printed version is 500; the computerized version, 173;
  • be available for interview if the Graduate Committee deems necessary;
  • have an overall graduation rate of 2.50 or more, or a general index of specialty of 3.00 or more in the past 60 credits from high school;
  • demonstrate good command of Spanish, if an international student, by submitting evidence of Spanish courses approved or recognized score in tests for these purposes;
  • have approved sub-graduate level each of the following courses:

CONT 3005 and CONT 3006, or 08.06 credits equivalent courses Basic Accounting
THIS IS 3001 and 3002, or 08.06 credits equivalent courses Trade Statistics

The Graduate Committee may identify other additional deficiency courses. If you have identified deficiencies could be accepted under conditioned to remedy the deficiencies within the first two years of study admission. The total average deficiencies must be 3.00 or more and any course will be approved with grade below C.

Bioengineering (PhD)

To request the PhD program in Bioengineering and holds a bachelor’s degree or master ‘sdegree, you must meet the following requirements specific and general .

  • provide evidence of a bachelor’s degree in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or related areas
  • have a minimum general index (GPA) of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00 from an accredited institution of higher education
  • demonstrate a background in mathematics at the level of differential equations.
  • provide TOEFL (Test of Inglés as a Foreign Language) if English is not your first language

In addition, applicants will be encouraged, but not required, to be approved undergraduate courses in human anatomy and physiology, cell and molecular human biology, or both.

If you have a master’s degree, you must:

  • possess a master’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution of higher education. It may be encouraged, but not required, to be approved undergraduate or graduate courses in human anatomy and physiology, cell and molecular human biology, or both, or
  • possess a master’s degree in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or related to an accredited institution of higher education areas, and with a background in mathematics at the level of differential equations. It may be encouraged, but not required, to be approved undergraduate or graduate courses in human anatomy and physiology, cell and molecular human biology, or both;
  • provide TOEFL (Test of Inglés as Foreign Language) if English is not your first language.

Bioengineering (MS, ME)

To request the MS program in Bioengineering and holds a bachelor’s degree or bachelor’s degree, you must

  • hold a bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00 from an accredited institution of higher education. It may be encouraged, but not required, to be approved undergraduate courses in human anatomy and physiology, cell and molecular human biology, or both;
  • hold a bachelor’s degree in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or related to a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, from an accredited institution of higher education areas, and with a background in mathematics at the level of differential equations . It may be encouraged, but not required, to be approved undergraduate courses in human anatomy and physiology, cell and molecular human biology, or both;
  • provide TOEFL (Test of Inglés as Foreign Language) if English is not your first language.

You get a Master of Science (MS) if you develop a thesis through their graduate studies. If you develop a project, you get a Master’s degree in Engineering (ME).

To request the MS program in Biology and has a high school diploma or degree, you must meet the general requirements and

  • provide GRE scores (Gradute Record Examinations);
  • obtain a minimum score of 70 on the TOEFL (Test of Inglés as Foreign Language) if English is not your first language;
  • possess a minimum of 3.00 on average (GPA) Biology courses;

As admission to the program is subject to the availability of faculty advisors in the area of interest of the applicant, it is highly recommended that you contact potential faculty mentors before applying for admission.

To request the MS program in Animal Science and has a high school diploma or degree, you must meet the general requirements of the Office of Graduate Studies, have a minimum 3.00 GPA on a 4.00 scale in combination with a 2.50 average in math and science courses.

If you are interested in applying for the doctoral program of Sciences and Computer Engineering, you must meet the general requirements and

  • provide general GRE test results;
  • write a technical paper which provides details about your area of interest, develop a technical issue and can cite literature.

If you want to ask MS or PhD program in Marine Science, you must meet the following general requirements and specific.

If you have a high school diploma or degree, you must

  • possess an average of 3.00 for general admission or more on a scale of 4.00; if your average is 2.80 with, your application will be assessed if there is reason to compelan to it;
  • write a technical trial where there is lots about your area of interest, develop a technical issue and can cite literature;
  • coordinate pre-arrangements academic counseling. To be admitted, you must have the support of a faculty member available to be your mentor in the early stages or more of its development in the Department of Marine Sciences;
  • have passed courses required in Calculation 1 (1 semester), General Biology (1 year), Physics (1 year), General Chemistry (1 year) and Organic Chemistry (1 semester). The department will evaluate the transcript.

To request the PhD program in Marine Science and holds a master’s degree, you must

  • possess an average of 3.50 to 4.00 mastery on a 4-point scale or equivalent. If your average is 3.20 onwards, your application will be considered if there are reasons compelan to it;
  • You must include a letter from a professor in the program that has agreed to accept the applicant as his student;
  • write a technical trial where there is lots about your area of interest, develop a technical issue and can cite literature.

If you wish to request the MAEE program in English Education, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Possessing an overall average of at least 3.00 on a 4.00 scale. The Departmental Graduate Committee may consider general whose average and specialty applications is 2.75 to 2.99, it does provide a convincing justification why the average obtained in the application.
  • Provide their TOEFL scores if your first language is not English and pass the exam with a minimum of 550 for the paper test, 213 for the computer test and 79 for the test online.
  • Meet the general requirements of the Office of Graduate Studies.
  • Submit a statement highlighting its intention to apply for the graduate program in English on one page single spaced if applying online.
  • Include copy of an academic writing
  • Provide three recommendations of professionals who are familiar with academic work and / or professional yours. If your interests include recommending a formal letter, this must be added to the recommendation form provided by the application for admission.
  • Comply an interview with a member of the Departmental Graduate Committee and / or the Director of the Department.

In addition, applicants must meet the following academic prerequisites at undergraduate level or equivalent:

  • ENGL 3351 Literature US until 1860 or ENGL 3352: US Literature from 1860 to modern times
  • ENGL 3321: English literature until 1798 or ENGL 3322: English Literature 1798 to modern times;
  • ENGL 3225: Introduction to Linguistics or ENGL 3227: US English phonetics;
  • ENGL 4205: Morphology and syntax;
  • ENGL 4206: Structure of English.

To request the MA program in Hispanic Studies and has a high school diploma or degree, you must

  • have a minimum GPA of 2.75;
  • provide letters of recommendation written by people related to their academic work;
  • fulfill a personal or telephone interview with the director of the department and with at least one representative of the Departmental Graduate Committee;
  • write a critical essay of a minimum of seven pages, double spaced, with characters size 12, about a proper subject of discipline;
  • meet the general requirements of the Office of Graduate Studies.

To request the MS program in Geology and holds a bachelor’s degree or bachelor’s degree, you must

  • possess a Bachelor of Science majoring in Geology or Earth Science from an accredited institution;
  • have a minimum GPA of 2.80 on a scale of 4.00; if your average is 2.50 to 2.79 may be considered at the discretion of the Graduate Committee of the Department of Geology;
  • results provide comprehensive review of GRE;
  • write an essay where their areas of interest abound and show possible communication between you and counselor (s);
  • meet the general requirements of the Office of Graduate Studies

Failure to comply with these requirements may be admitted provisionally until it meets the deficiencies as defined by the Admissions Committee Graduate Department of Geology.

If you want to ask or ME MS program in Industrial Engineering and holds a bachelor’s degree or bachelor’s degree, you must

  • provide TOEFL score if your native language is not English;
  • provide course syllabi if international student;

To request the program MS, ME, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, you must meet the following general requirements:

  • TOEFL: You must get a minimum score of 80 if your first language is not Spanish or English even an American citizen. If your score is between 70-79, it may be considered based on an interview by members of the Graduate Committee. If admitted, you may be subject to take an English course at the graduate level.
  • Statement of Purpose: This test should include your reasons for requesting the Graduate Program of Mechanical Engineering at UPR Mayaguez, their academic and professional background in the study area, their interest areas of expertise and research, future plans short and long term and include other aspects of their preparation to help the Graduate Committee to assess their motivation and likelihood of success in the program.     • Submit the qualification “Graduate Record Examination (GRE)”, although there is no minimum required.
  • If you have a master’s degree, you must:
    • Possess a master’s degree in engineering or physics with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale from an accredited institution of higher education.

To request the program MS, ME, or PhD in Chemical Engineering, shall provide the following documents in addition to the general requirements of the Office of Graduate Studies:

  • Test 1: You must write an essay in English or Spanish that includes the following information: Why he decided to pursue graduate studies? Why he requested graduate studies at the University of Puerto Rico?     • Exercise Physiology (3 credits)
    • Motor learning (3 credits)
    • Evaluation in Physical Education (3 credits)
  • have obtained a minimum score of 500 in the EXADEP, or provide your GRE scores as alternate assessment.

If you wish to request the MS program on Soil Protection, you must meet the general requirements of the Office of Graduate Studies and have a minimum GPA of 2.75 on a scale of 4.00.

If you wish to request the MS or PhD in Chemistry program, you must:

  • have an overall graduation rate of 2.80 or higher on a scale of 4.00;
  • have a specialty in chemistry index of 3.00 or higher on a scale of 4.00;
  • get 2.00 or more in the analytical section of the general GRE exam;
  • meet the general requirements of the Office of Graduate Studies.
