radarDescription:

The Radar, Photonics and Laser Systems Division will lead the development, prototyping and transitioning of advance electromagnetic, optical and laser technologies. This division has a unique network of radars interconnected across the island of Puerto Rico. Research interest includes microwave radar systems, LIDAR radars, optoelectronics, adaptive sensor networks, optical design, spectroscopy, applied research on fiber optics and laser gyros, laser and optics integration, remote sensing algorithms and photonics instrumentation.

Areas of interest:

  1. Detection of Unmanned Systems using phased-array radar systems
  2. Lasers to improve the radar’s performance by generating accurate radio-frequency radar pulses
  3. Software-defined radio for communication devices
  4. Customized antennas for unmanned systems to improve communication
  5. Development of photonic and optoelectronic transition technologies to improve the communication of multiple cyber-physical systems
